The Army's Recruitment

America’s Army starts with the recruiting process. A recruiter's job is to sustain an all-volunteer Army. They are the Army’s trusted ambassador to the American people. By illustrating Army values and demonstrating the Warrior Ethos: Always place the mission first, Never accept defeat, Never quit and never leave a fallen comrade. A major way for the Army to do this is through television. When they make their commercials they display what the Army stands for.

On the other hand you have the Ukrainian Army trying to recruit you. They tell you that you can get tons of girls if you join their army.

The Wounded Warrior Project

A program I felt like talking about that helped soldiers is the The Wounded Warrior Project. This is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors of the United States Armed Forces.
The Wounded Warrior Project raises awareness and gets help from the public to aid the severely injured  service men and women, to help critically wounded service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

Dance Party in Iraq

I found this video awhile back. I thought it was interesting to see what soldiers did in their spare time while deployed.

Making Better Soldiers

The United States Army provides training for soldiers in order to better themselves. The beginning is usually at Basic Combat Training (BCT) which transforms civilians into Soldiers and helps them succeed. Then they will go to Advanced Individual Training (AIT) where they learn how to perform their Army job.   After this training the Soldier has the opportunity to go to specialized schools to advance their Army careers. There is a wide variety of schools from language and management training to leadership and survival skills. Here is a list of various schools:

  • Airborne School
  • Army Medical Department School
  • Aviation School
  • Chaplain School
  • Defense Information School
  • Defense Language Institute
  • Drill Sergeant School
  • Equal Opportunity Advisors Course
  • Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps
  • Jumpmaster School
  • Pathfinder School
  • Ranger School
  • Recruiting and Retention and School
  • Sapper Leader Course
  • School of Music
  • Special Forces Training
Along with these schools there are courses for those wanting to advance up the ranks of the Army.

  • Warrior Leader Course
  • Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC)
  • Advanced Noncommisiond Officer Course (ANCOC)
  • First Sergeant Academy
  • Army Sergeants Major Academy
  • Command Sergeants Major Acadmemy
  • Officer Training Course (OTC)
With the advancement in technology the Army offers many online training courses that expand the knowledge of the Soldier. These also can help with promotions for the individual. The opportunities the Army provides its Soldiers allows for a better army and American citizen.

How My Future and Interest Began

I do not have a close relative that was in the military like many that join. Growing up my dad would always watch the History Channel or AMC where something would come on involving the armed forces; such as Patton or Modern Marvels. This sparked my interests and when in high school I was very fortunate.

At my high school they have an Air Force Junior ROTC program. The information I learned along with the instructors there made certain that I was going to join eventually. I really wanted to go to college and get a degree.

A ROTC scholarship allowed me to go to college, have it paid, and become an officer when I graduated. Well the Air Force and Navy wanted me to be engineering and go to a major university, which I have no interest in. The Army gave me the chance to choose the major I wanted. Today I am a successful student with the chance to do stuff that I never would expect thanks to the Army.

I would like to thank Lt. Col. Marcus Majure for helping me achieve this opportunity of a life time and believing in me when others didn’t.
